We've always counted ourselves lucky to have so many good friends. They know who they are, so lets spare the platitudes; I'll name a few though as time has been less kind to some than others ! Lets start with our wedding, back in May 1989. A drive and a train under the Channel and the French countryside is your oyster (or fish, lamb, cheese board ...) A short drive down the coast from Calais is the seaside town of Wimereux and the Hotel L'Atlantic, a favourite of ours for lunch. This trip was with Sean & Eva, Mike, Mandy & thier two daughters Emily & Alice. A splendid lunch and a quick shop on the way home made a great day out.

Another of our long weekend City breaks with friends Sean & Eva. The cultural heart of Andelusia , this is a laid back relaxed City that's easy to stroll around. Lots of historic buildings (Alcázar Palace, the Cathedral, the Giralda Tower etc.), good shops (as long as you don't visit on a Holiday weekend !), tapas (they say it was invented here), bars & great restaurants. It gets darned hot in the middle of the summer, but spring & autumn its warm, sunny & an ideal escape from the cool British weather. Home to the 1992 Expo World Fair, the parks & buildings left over have largely fallen into disrepair & offer limited attraction so stick to the north bank of the Guadalquivir. This is also the City from which we got marmalade; due to a British importer who had to find someting to do with a consignment of bitter oranges, bought by mistake. For those into the Dan Brown books, many landmarks will be familiar from Digital Fortress.

Near the City of Bend on the Deschutes river in Oregon, USA we are building a log cabin. Well, actually, a general contractor will be building it on Rennie's land under his supervision, but as a property investment its a lot more exciting than a 2 bed flat in Brixton ! It should end up looking something like this, with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a bonus room above a double garage to be added to the side. Peter & Ren measure up the plot. Here's a cabin, variation of the same design as ours, that Chris & Cliff (our general contractors) are building for a client up in the hills, a few miles the other side of Bend.

Long ago & far away, I went to Abbey Wood comprehensive school. In my later years there I was lucky enough to make a lot of good friends, many of whom I'm still in touch with. Here are some pictures of a few of them & a couple of me - when I was "young & foolish" One of our "6th form" walks, from Westerham Good grief ! I was a "hippy" - but then so were we all; here with my good friend Debbie. Mick & Steve (front row), Alan, Chrissy, Deb, Malcolm, Bernie, Sue & me. Looking back, it seemed like one long holiday - we must have done some work ! Ah yes, & then of course there was Tom & Abbo - Dave Abbott, who (believe it or not) is now a responsible husband & father of 2 big lads Elaine ... ah yes, Elaine; perhaps I should mention here that I was (briefly) married to Elaine - a long time before Trix of course !

Trix's side of the family. Her Dad is Terry Barber, a true "Brit", whilst she gets her flair for style & continental "attitude" from her Dutch Mother Caroline (Wagenaar). With a second home in Vlissingen, they sound like jet setting channel hoppers; but in reality, they just have too much furnitue for one house ! Caro's brother moved to the States many years ago (Cathage, NY) & has 3 sons. Two of them, Trix's favourite cousins, are Colonels in the US Army. Here's Eric with his wife Beth, daughter Lauren & sons Chris (at the back) & Greg. This was back in 2000 at Eric's transfer of command.
